Good News!!! Field Update from Our Agroforestry Project in Doma, Nasarawa State

Do you remember these heartfelt words? “Since I started farming, no organization has supported us like this, especially in these hard times.” ICYMI, watch here: https://youtu.be/CvSdzoR5aXk
Those were the words of Aliyu Atama, one of the beneficiary farmers of our ongoing UNDP GEF-SGP-supported project in Ajimaka and Rukubi, Doma LGA, Nasarawa State.
Today, the story is changing. The agroforestry farms established through this project, especially the sesame fields, are yielding bountiful harvests. One woman, overwhelmed with joy, exclaimed, “Now I can pay my children’s school fees and take care of my family.”
H.L. Mencken once said, “For every complex problem, there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong.” But the results we’re witnessing suggest a powerful corollary: For every complex problem like climate change, there is a nature-based solution that is simple, smart, and effective.
Indeed, today is a beautiful day for the farmers of Doma. As they celebrate their harvests, they say with pride: “Our eyes have seen good.” And for us at APEARE, this is good news too. We are deeply grateful to UNDP GEF-SGP Nigeria for funding this transformative project.
To paraphrase the wisdom of Wangari Maathai, and in alignment with SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), we are demonstrating that through collaboration, we can take meaningful climate action (SDG 13), work to end hunger (SDG 2), reduce poverty (SDG 1), and improve life on land (SDG 15), all through exemplary governance that informs, sensitizes, mobilizes, and involves citizens in direct action for their environment.
