Our journey began in April 2019 when the Alliance for Positive Environmental Impacts and Reforestation (APEARE) was founded. The seeds of this remarkable non-governmental organization (NGO) were sown during an inspiring event, the 2014 American Association of Geographers My Community Our Earth (MyCOE/SERVIR) Capstone, held at the prestigious USAID and NASA headquarters in Washington DC, USA. Our founder envisioned an NGO that could harness the immense potential of Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFPs) to offer sustainable economic alternatives, countering the overexploitation of forest resources. At APEARE, we are driven by a profound commitment to both climate action and social justice. We firmly acknowledge the urgency of the situation, understanding that empowering indigenous women and youth is not only vital for their well-being but also for the preservation of our planet’s delicate ecosystems.
With this vision serving as our guiding light, we embarked on a transformative journey. APEARE’s efforts focus on empowering and uplifting marginalized communities, ensuring that their voices are heard, and their needs are met.
