As we celebrate World Environment Day 2023, we at Alliance for Positive Environmental Impacts and Reforestation (APEARE) reaffirm our commitment to protecting and restoring our planet’s precious ecosystems. With this in mind, we recently organized a workshop in Ibadan, Oyo State Nigeria for secondary school students, where we educated them on how to #beatplasticpollution in line with the theme for this year’s World Environment Day Celebration.

At APEARE, we believe that reducing our use of single-use plastics, recycling, and upcycling plastic products, supporting policies that promote plastic reduction and implementing alternative materials for packaging and products are some of the most effective ways to combat the scourge of #plasticpollution. Here are some ideas on how we can #beatplasticpollution:

First, we can reduce our use of single-use plastics like straws, bags, and cutlery. Instead, we can opt for reusable alternatives like metal straws and cloth bags.

Second, we can properly dispose of our plastic waste by recycling or composting. This way, it won’t end up in our waterways and damage our environment.

Third, we can support businesses that are committed to reducing their plastic usage and implementing sustainable practices.

Fourth, we can advocate for stronger policies and regulations to reduce plastic pollution and hold companies accountable for their environmental impact.

Finally, we can educate ourselves and others about the harmful effects of plastic pollution and the importance of taking action to protect our planet. By doing so, we can create a cleaner, healthier Nigeria for future generations. Let’s join forces and use our collective power to make a difference – let’s #beatplasticpollution and build a #SustainableNigeria today!
